I would love for you to feature artwork from New York City artist Eileen Hickey, also known as Eileen “bang bang”. Armed with nail polish, lipstick, eye shadow and various other unconventional material, Eileen Hickey-Hulme creates her pearlescent, abstract images often juxtaposing images of power with those of fragility. Eileen Hickey-Hulme is a native of Buffalo, New York, but fell in love with NYC and East Hampton when she arrived at the age of 18.
Artwork by Eileen Bang Bang
Like many artists, Eileen drew inspiration from the surrounding waters discovering the duality of the calm healing waters and its deadly, storming waves. Conflict, cognitive dissonance, and duality are reflected in Eileen’s paintings which question and disrupt a viewer’s typical understanding and experience of a painting. Eileen resolves the seeming disparity between Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, and Pop cryptically: “I want to paint things that are seen but not seen.”
Eileen Hickey, recently added to her list of achievements with her comedy shows and her “Hell Yeah” foundation. Comedy, Hickey’s second love, is a passion that evolved as a coping mechanism in response to her divorce. “I call them marriage years, like dog years. I was 25 when I got married and 3 years later I was 50! I’m really 35!” joked the NYC artist during her debut performance on the topic of marriage and divorce.
Hickey wants to lighten the divorce burden that psychologically can cripple both men and women. She has launched a series of artistic endeavors to achieve her goal. “Hell Yeah!” her calling card, is the foundations name. The Hell Yeah foundation is a helpful resource for individuals that intend on getting married. It serves as a tool to keep people informed on their rights and provide insight on the nasty side of marriage that some see when going through a divorce.
